I’m not lying

During Mike’s parents’ visit, we had a tough time getting Christopher to bed. To be expected, he was very excited to see his Nana and Pop-pop. In fact, the day they departed for home, Christopher got very upset. I digress, however.

When Mike’s parents arrived, we gave them our room, which is on the main floor and adjacent to the boys’ rooms. Incidentally, with the exception of one bedroom, the laundry room and the garage, all other rooms of our house are on the main floor. Anyway, we took the downstairs bedroom.

Every bedtime was different. Looking back, it was entertaining. One night, we could hear Christopher whispering from under his door, “Nana, may I have some water, please?” Apparently, Nana supplied Christopher with water one night. Another night, he called out to his Dads, “Will you cut the tag of Jujubee, please?” Jujubee happens to be the name of his Pillow Pet. In true form, Christopher repeats his rant until he gets attention or tires. This night was a bit different, though. After about the third or fourth, “Will you cut the tag of Jujubee, please?”, he immediately follows in an angry voice, “Oh, my God, Jesus Christ.” And, without missing a beat, he begins repeating, “Will you cut the tag of Jujubee, please?”, in his normal voice. Mike’s parents, who are Catholic, began laughing hysterically.

One other night, Christopher tells Dad, “I have to go potty.” Going potty is part of his normal bedtime routine. Thinking Christopher was up to his usual games, Mike put him to bed. The following morning, Christopher awakens, gets dressed, and goes to the potty. When finished he looks at Mike, “See, Dad, I had to go potty. I wasn’t lying.” Where does he get this stuff? We have never used that phrase…
